Tax in Saskatchewan
Sales tax when you buy gold in Saskatchewan
Gold jewellery in Saskatchewan carries 11% (5% GST + 6% PST). On a $1,000.00 ring that is $110.00 of tax, for a total of $1,110.00. The rate is the same in every city and town in Saskatchewan.
Bars, ingots, wafers and coins of gold or platinum at least 99.5% pure, or silver at least 99.9% pure, carry no GST/HST. This is the federal rule, so it applies in Saskatchewan too (Canada Revenue Agency, GST/HST Memorandum 17-1). A Gold Maple Leaf coin qualifies. A 14K chain or a 22K coin does not.
Saskatchewan also charges its own 6% PST. PST is reported not to apply, since September 1, 2016, to precious metals that qualify for the federal exemption. Confirm with Saskatchewan Finance.
