Jewellery is taxed like most goods. Every province pays the 5% federal GST, on its own or inside a harmonized tax (HST). Canada has no city sales tax, so the rate is the same everywhere in a province.
Investment bullion. Bars, ingots, wafers and coins of gold or platinum at least 99.5% pure, or silver at least 99.9% pure, carry no GST/HST.(Canada Revenue Agency, GST/HST Memorandum 17-1.) Where a province charges its own sales tax, its rule for bullion is on that province’s page.
This is general information, not tax advice. Rates and rules change: confirm with the Canada Revenue Agency or your province before you rely on them.
